Uncertainty remains after Co-op cybersecurity incident

It appears Co-op is not out quite of the woods yet as the company continues to deal with a cybersecurity incident.

Federated Co-operatives Limited said it is aware of statements circulating online indicating that data from its system has been copied and will allegedly be released.

But Co-op suggested it is still too early to tell if that is true or not.

“While it is possible these allegations are related to the cybersecurity incident we previously experienced, we are still investigating with assistance from third-party experts,” the company said in a statement shared to social media.

“If the investigation determines that data was in fact compromised, as previously stated, we will take appropriate action,” Co-op added.

Last month, the company announced it was experiencing a cybersecurity incident. The disruption led to empty grocery shelves and left Co-op Cardlocks closed across the country.

Co-op said the incident has been “contained,” and noted that the company temporarily took a number of systems offline as a precaution.

“As we continue forward with resuming normal operations, we’re working towards bringing all systems back online safely,” the company noted.

Co-op Cardlocks were back up and running last week.
