Cumberland House Celebrates 250 Years

Cumberland House is celebrating 250 historic years on August 11-13.

It is the oldest community in Saskatchewan, 116 years older, and 93 years older than Canada.

We are situated in the heart of the Saskatchewan River Delta, which is the largest inland delta in North America.

12:00 pm – Parade-Historical theme floats, relay from the bridge with float following

1:00 pm – Grand Entry-Chief, Mayor, MNS, NWC, 2 Youth, LFDM (Karen), OCN, PAGC, FSIN,

Treaty 5, Veteran Rep (Doug), Fed/Prov Gov’t, RCMP, 250 Committee, Volunteers

– Opening Prayer- Bertha, Lily, William

6:00 – 9:00 pm – Day 1 events for King & Queen Trappers, historical dress, animal call, trap setting, jigging

MONDAY

8:00 a.m. Breakfast @ Vets Hall

8:00 a.m. Registrations @ Vets Hall

10:00 a.m. Arts & Crafts Sales & Displays @ Vets Hall

10:00 a.m. – Canoe & Voyageur Races Day 1 – (Cut-off or JB Grounds) (life jackets & paddles & canoes)

12:00 pm -King & Queen Trapper Events -axe throwing, log toss, nail pounding, Bannock making, tea boiling

1:00 pm – Museum Opens -Tours of the Island sign up

1:00 pm – Foot races & activities – tug of war, foot races, ball toss, shoe shuffle

4:00 pm-6:00 pm-Voyageur Experience on the Bigstone River or JB Grounds (to the rapids)

6:00 pm- Fish Fry, potatoes, coleslaw – (location? Arena?)

7:00-9:00 – Talent Show (back up band)– Pow Wow Demonstration – Historical Look Alike

TUESDAY

8:00 a.m. – Breakfast at the Vets Hall

10:00 am – Arts & Crafts Sales at the Vets Hall

10:00 a.m. – Canoe & Voyageur Races continue

1:00 pm – Foot/Bike races & activities continue

1:00 pm – Museum Opens – Tours

4:00 pm – Voyageur Experience @race site

6:00 pm – Supper – at the arena (roast beef, potatoes, veg & dessert (puchin)

7:00 pm – Closing Ceremonies -acknowledge our committee (efforts put forth in a few weeks) , our sponsors everyone for coming out to celebrate. Round Dance.
