Water levels rising at Anglin Lake, flooding possible

Jun 19, 2024 | 11:43 AM

Water levels at Anglin Lake have now risen past the full supply limit, and the Water Security Agency (WSA) is warning that in the coming days, flooding is a very real possibility for areas north of Prince Albert.

To protect the integrity of the dam, a draw down is required. On Monday, the WSA conducted an operation to increase outflow at Anglin Lake.

Water levels at Anglin Lake have continued to rise but the WSA has decided not to conduct an additional operation and will instead surcharge the lake temporarily.

However, outflow from the dam has continued to increase due to the rising water level at Anglin Lake. The current outflow from the dam has increased, and is approaching what was observed in 2013.

Increased water levels/flows will continue to be observed along the Spruce/Little Red River over the coming days.

The water level at Highway #2 will visibly increase in the next 1-2 days while water levels in Little Red River Park will increase in the next 3-4 days.

There are also flow contributions from local tributaries such as Bell Creek and Halkett Lake downstream of the dam, these systems also impact the Spruce/Little Red River. The WSA does not have control structures on these local tributaries, and they are not monitored.
