The Prince Albert Downtown Business Improvement District’s Street Fair is the city’s largest single day community event.

Organizers expected more than 15,000 people to attend the annual festival between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday to take in more than 170 vendors, organizations, kid’s zones and entertainment.

The event had plenty of activities to explore including bouncy castles, train rides, street hockey, juggling and face painting. Entertainment on the main stage included the likes of Karissa Hoffart and The Big Muddy Band and Saskatchewan Country Music Association triple crown winner Justin LaBrash and True North.

New this year was Ren Faire Alley where Renaissance enthusiasts could dress up in medieval fare to have their photos taken. Several people also stopped by the two new wall murals that recently went up on the exterior of the Medical Pharmacy and the Gateway Mall. The murals are meant for interactive photos and PADBID executive director Rhonda Trusty previously told paNOW, the murals represent the first phase of a plan that will incorporate many buildings in the downtown area.

Stores along Central offered substantial savings with sidewalk sales, crafters displayed intricate and engraved crib boards, ribbon skirts and jewellery. And there was plenty of food to choose from including homebaked goods, fresh vegetables at the Farmer’s Market and food trucks that featured shaved ice, pork on a bun and other multicultural dishes.

The free fun family festival consisted of seven blocks of continuous entertainment and activities. Temporary tattoos and even a pop up hair salon garnered a lot of attention. Andy Cohen from Pattison Media’s Power 99 FM radio station along with PRT Forest Nursery partnered to promote environmental stewardship by handing out seedlings to guests of the Street Fair. Lew Harrison from 101.5 Beach Radio was on location with ‘Blue’ – a 2012 Nissan Murano that is up for grabs as the grand prize of the radio station’s Summer Free Ride contest.

Organizers had hoped this year’s Street Fair would be the biggest yet and Mother Nature may have helped them reach that goal. The weather held steady with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 23 C along with a little breeze that helped make the promenade along Central Avenue even more enjoyable.
