Search continues for man last seen at River Street East home

Jun 13, 2024 | 4:59 PM

Every Sunday morning, Dominic Custer calls his grandmother in Deschambault Lake and his failure to do so four days ago raised alarm bells.

The 27-year-old has not been seen since 2:00 am on June 8 at a home in the 200 Block of River Street East in Prince Albert.

At any given time, there can be 2,000 people technically missing, but Custer’s case stands out because of who he is, said Dwayne Hiebert, who is helping with the search.

“It’s uncharacteristic for him and he’s basically a good person,” said Hiebert.

While Custer may dabble in recreational drugs every once in a while, he is not a heavy user and has no associations with gang activity or other criminal behaviour, he explained.

Custer was in Prince Albert on a visit from his home community and often goes to visit other family members in the city or in Montreal Lake.

So far, search efforts have included the riverbank with the Prince Albert Fire Department using their search and rescue boat and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency searching the other side of the river.

Ground searchers are also walking every day trying to find evidence of where Custer might be.

The Prince Albert Grand Council’s search master, Harold Isbister, is helping co-ordinate the emergency operations centre, which is in their Urban Services Centre not far from the river and blocks away from Custer’s last known location.

The group has enough volunteers now to run the search, thanks to strong support from the community, which Hiebert said he was very thankful for.

People who have security cameras, especially in the 200 Block of River Street East are being asked to check their feeds for signs of Custer around the time he went missing.

Any suspected tips can be sent to the Prince Albert City Police, who also have an active investigation open.

When last seen, Custer was wearing a black hat, a black and white sweater and dark blue jeans.

He is 5’4” tall, 140 lbs with a slim build and dark brown curly or wavy hairthat is shoulder length and brown eyes. He has tattoos on his left and right forearms.

Custer goes by the nickname “ChooChooMan” and has a scars on his left top lip and scalp.
