Stanley Mission resident wins exclusive scratch ticket jackpot

A morning cup of coffee never tasted so good.

Paul McKenzie was sipping on his cup of joe while scratching a Sask Lotteries ‘ONLY IN SASK’ ticket when he uncovered a winning line.

The resident of Stanley Mission waited until he had scratched the entire ticket before uncovering the corresponding prize amount.

“I couldn’t believe it. I had to double check [the symbols] myself.”

McKenzie had won a $50,000 top prize. The ‘ONLY IN SASK’ scratch ticket became Saskatchewan’s only provincially-exclusive ticket since Sask Lotteries was incorporated five decades ago. The ticket commemorates the 50th anniversary of Sask Lotteries and features locally illustrated icons of sport, culture and recreation activities. A release from Sask Lotteries said since 1974, through an agreement with the provincial government, $1.4 billion in proceeds from the sale of lottery products purchased through Sask Lotteries have benefited more than 12,000 sport, culture and rec groups across the province.

The first of the two $50,000 ‘ONLY IN SASK’ prizes was claimed in April.

McKenzie said he still doesn’t know how to feel about winning, but his plans for the prize include taking his kids on a trip.

The winning scratch ticket was purchased at the Canadian Tire Gas+ on Marquis Road in Prince Albert.
