Man charged following collision

Prince Albert Police have confirmed two charges against the driver of a pickup involved in a two-vehicle collision next to the Petro Canada on Sixth Avenue East yesterday.

Bernard McCallum is charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm and criminal negligence while operating a motor vehicle.

He received minor injuries in the collision and was treated on scene before his arrest.

The driver of the second vehicle was an 83-year-old woman whose injuries were much more serious.

After being treated at Victoria Hospital, she was transported by STARS to Saskatoon where she remains in serious but stable condition.

The collision between the pickup and the car happened just before 3 pm yesterday at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 22nd Street, one of the busiest in the city.

PAPS say the car was turning east onto 22nd Street when it was “struck at a high rate of speed by the northbound truck”.

Traffic was blocked for hours as an RCMP collision reconstructionist helped PAPS with the investigation, which is still continuing.

McCallum has been released until his next court appearance on July 4 in Prince Albert Provincial Court.
