Teen charged with bear spraying Prince Albert police officer in the face

Jun 3, 2024 | 10:40 AM

A teenage boy, alleged to have bear sprayed multiple people, including two Prince Albert police officers, is scheduled to appear in court today.

On June 1, at 12:53 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 28 Street East for a disturbance.

It was reported there was a group of males in an alley and one was armed with a canister of bear spray.

While en route to the call, police were updated that a 59-year-old man was bear sprayed.

Patrol members arrived at 12:55 a.m. and immediately located a 17-year-old boy who matched the description of the suspect.

While speaking with police the teen fled on foot to evade arrest.

When officers gave chase, the suspect deployed bear spray striking the officers in the face.

As additional police were responding, the two lone officers fought through the effects of the bear spray, gained control of the suspect, and took him into custody.

The youth is facing several charges including assault with a weapon, assault police officer, carry a concealed weapon, and possession of a weapon.

The assaulted officers were treated for the effects of bear spray and remained on duty that night completing their shift.
