The Prince Albert Raiders put pen to paper with another one of their picks from this year’s WHL Prospects Draft.

The club signed Prince Albert’s Connor Howe to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement on Thursday, making him the third prospect to be signed from the 2024 Draft along with second overall pick Brock Cripps and fourth overall pick Ben Harvey. Howe was drafted in the second round, 31st overall.

He spent last season as the captain of the Prince Albert Pirates U15AA club, but only appeared in 16 games as he was sidelined due to injury. Despite that, Howe still managed 43 points (21g, 22a) and shared his thoughts on last season, as well as the kind of player he is.

“I thought it was a pretty good season for us, we had a really good start,” Howe said in an interview after the draft. “The team was good, we had a really good group of guys out there and really good coaching. I had an injury in the middle of the season that set me back for a bit, but when I got back, I thought I was doing really good.

“I think I’m a 200-foot player who likes to play physical,” he continued. “I’m a good, strong skater who has good hockey IQ, and I’ve got a hard, accurate shot.”

Howe isn’t the first member of his family to play in the WHL as his brother, Tanner, currently serves as the captain of the Regina Pats. His first season of full-time eligibility in the WHL will be Tanner’s last, and he shared his emotions on sharing his draft day with his brother.

“It was really cool, especially because he’s been through the draft. He told me what it was like, and just told me ‘you never know when you’re going to get drafted.’ He was so excited for me. It was amazing to share that with him.”

Howe is set to don the Prince Albert Mintos’ Green and Gold this upcoming season.
