About the Project

Finding Our Common Stories is a cross-cultural, collaborative art project that brings together newcomer women and Indigenous women to connect, share their stories, and collaborate on visual art projects with Harmony.

Harmony will lead art workshops that are designed to share participants’ backgrounds: where they were born, how they grew up, how they have found themselves here in P.A., and the stories and identities they are shaping for themselves in P.A. Elder Liz Settee will be present at workshops in the first and third weeks of the project to bring participants together in a positive way.

Based on the engagements, stories, and cultural bridging that emerge from the workshops, Harmony will work on her own paintings and sculptural pieces. At the same time, workshop participants will create individual and collaborative art projects that express their identities as they have come to be formed in P.A. Throughout the project, the public will be able to drop in to the studio at the Margo Fournier Arts Centre and visit Harmony as her works are in progress. From this they can understand the working processes of an artist: inspiration, challenges, ideas, and possibilities.

At the end of the project, an open studio day will be held, where all workshop participants will have their artworks on display at the studio. This will be a public event, with the goal of bringing together different members of our community. Harmony will give an artist talk and share the activities and learnings that have emerged over the project. Elder Liz Settee will be present.
