Guilty pleas entered by man involved in robbery of young volleyball player

One of three men charged after a robbery and shooting incident last fall near Prince Albert’s St. Mary High School, has avoided trial and entered a number of guilty pleas.

Michael Fourstar was accompanied by family members, when he appeared Wednesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

In relation to the events that occurred on Sept. 8, 2023, guilty pleas were entered to robbery, discharging a firearm with intent to cause harm and possession of an unauthorized firearm.

A separate guilty plea was also entered for, while being out on bail, failing to appear for a scheduled court date.

A pre-sentence report has been ordered and Fourstar will return to court on July 8. His lawyer noted her client’s plans to graduate high school in June and wanted to wait until after to resolve the case.

The facts were laid out during a bail hearing last October for one of the two co-accused.

The 17-year-old victim, who was from a school outside the community, and was at St. Mary for a volleyball tournament, was robbed and shot in the upper thigh. Among the items taken were his backpack, gym shorts and a water bottle.

This had all happened after he had first walked his girlfriend to her car, before continuing on his own.

During the robbery, one of the suspects was overheard saying “just shoot him” and seconds later another suspect pulled a small, hammered gun from their waist band and fired.

The following day, police located a young woman wearing the victim’s backpack and she said she got it from her brother.

Her brother would turn out to be Jon Napope, who along with Michael Fourstar was arrested roughly two weeks later, following the execution of search warrants at two separate West Flat addresses where the backpack’s contents were found.

Also charged in the case was Skylar Halkett, who has a bail hearing scheduled at provincial court for June 18.

Napope was sentenced in March and after a guilty plea related to possession of stolen property, received a jail sentence of four months.
