Local golf courses target opening days following late season snowfall

Apr 20, 2024 | 5:30 PM

Some local golf courses in and around the Prince Albert area have their eyes set on an opening date and thankfully for the avid golfers, they don’t need to wait very long.

While some courses have pushed their opening days back because of the recent snowfall, other courses say they’re ready to open as early as next week.

Fairview Fairways is set to re-open their driving range on Sunday and their course early next week while Kachurs Golf Course has said that they were hoping to be open on Saturday, but the snow cost them a few days’ worth of waiting. Now, the course hopes to be open as early as this coming Monday and guarantees that they will be open on Tuesday.

The Emma Lake and Shellbrook Golf Courses both have their sights set on April 27, while other courses like the Candle Lake Golf Resort and Cooke Municipal Golf Course in P.A. had to push their openings back until April 29. Before the snow, Cooke had their driving range open to golfers while Candle Lake was aiming to open for the season on April 22.

Some clubs like the Valley Regional Park in Rosthern, Elk Ridge Golf Resort, and Waskesiu Golf Course are waiting until the calendar flips before they open. Valley Regional said they will open on May 5 while Elk Ridge and Waskesiu will do the same on May 10.

Other places in the area like the Mark’s Nine Golf and Country Club, Silver Hills Golf Resort, and the Lazy K and Spruce Home Golf Courses have yet to release when they are opening.
