A Prince Albert team has made its mark on the provincial shuffleboard scene.

A P.A. based team consisting of Karen Nyuli, Bernie McDonald, Beryl Eros, and Gerald Shier recently won a provincial mixed Anavets tournament , knocking off teams from Saskatoon and Moose Jaw.

Prince Albert ended up winning with nine points while Saskatoon was the runner-up with eight.

“We won the trophy,” said Floyd LaVallee, president of the Prince Albert Anavets Unit 222. “They’re quite pumped. It was frustrating with the long hours that they had to travel, but they had fun and they won.”

Lavelli added that the Anavets also compete in other provincial sports, including darts, pool, and golf. He said the game is still relatively popular in Prince Albert.

“In P.A. here we’ve got 14 teams competing every Tuesday afternoon (at the Anavets building),” Lavelli said, adding that the Prince Albert Legion also has a league on Thursday nights.

The tournament wrapped up last Saturday in Moose Jaw.
