A 16-year-old boy is in Prince Albert Police custody following a sexual assault earlier this week.

On Tuesday, officers received a call reporting that a 14-year-old girl had recently been threatened and sexually assaulted.

Investigation and evidence led police to a residence in Prince Albert where officers went to the home on Thursday in an attempt to arrest the 16-year-old boy for sexual assault.

The boy has had previous run-ins with the law as he was arrested and charged earlier this year in an incident back on Feb. 20 for possession of a prohibited firearm, tampering with a serial number, possession of weapons contrary to order, and unsafe storage of firearms.

He was in the city on a Release Order with conditions to reside at an address in Prince Albert, abide by a curfew, and to not possess ammunition or firearms. Since he was not following his release conditions, he was additionally charged with breach of release order and a warrant for his arrest was requested.

Then in the early hours of Friday morning at around 4:45, police were called to the 300 block of 12th Street East for a report of someone breaking into vehicles.

Officers responded to the call and managed to locate a suspect who was carrying a firearm. Police then challenged the suspect, where they then dropped the weapon and fled on foot. Following a short foot pursuit, police arrested the suspect in the 500 block of 10th Street East where officers seized a sawed-off shotgun and 14 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect, a 16-year-old boy, was charged with several offences including possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, tampering with a serial number, possession of firearm and ammunition while prohibited, and breach of release order.

Once in custody, the identity of the 16-year-old boy was confirmed and he was held in custody to speak to the charges on all three files.

He made his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Friday.
