Another amazing turnout for annual Barveenok Dance Festival

More than 1,000 people took in one the biggest events on the calendar for the Prince Albert Barveenok Ukrainian Dancers.

Last weekend, the club held its annual Dance Festival featuring more than 350 dances from clubs across Saskatchewan. The club also said it served more than 2,300 perogies and 36 awards. About 325 hours were spent by volunteers making sure the event went off without a hitch.

The yearly festival is one of two big fundraisers for the club following its Fall Festival in November.

“These two events really help with our operating costs of our organization,” said Barveenok President Kayleigh Skomorowski, who said a final number is still being finalized.

With the season teetering near the end, Skomorowski said the club will still be busy with a couple of big performances.

“We’ll be dancing at the PFE Showcase in Saskatoon at the end of April, so we’re looking forward to that and then our year-end showcase is on Mother’s Day at the Rawlinson Centre,” she said. “We are going to be trying something different and partnering with the Ashden School of Irish Dance for our year-end showcase.”

The club will also hold an Open House on May 1st to hopefully get more dancers for next season.

Plans are already underway for next year’s Barveenok Dance Festival April 11-13.
