P.A.’s Zablocki, Rebels claim second straight Provincial title

Prince Albert’s Stryker Zablocki and the Regina Avana Rebels are champions of Saskatchewan once again.

The club claimed its second consecutive Sask. Female U18 AAA Hockey title on Wednesday night, taking the best-of-three series in straight games over fellow P.A. native Sasha Malenfant and the Notre Dame Hounds.

Regina dominantly took Game 1 on home ice on Sunday, winning 7-3 before establishing their flag on Saskatchewan with a 4-1 triumph in Game 2 to win the Provincial title on the road.

Zablocki found the scoresheet three times in the Fedoruk Cup-clinching game, potting a pair of assists in the first period before sealing the series with an empty net goal late in the third. Malenfant was held off the scoresheet in Game 2 and had one point to her name in the Finals with a single helper in Game 1.

Zablocki and the Rebels now head to the West Regional Finals to meet the Winnipeg Ice for the second year in a row with a ticket to the 2024 Esso Cup on the line. Regina won last year’s Regional over the Ice in straight games, winning 4-3 in overtime in Game 1 and 5-4 in overtime in Game 2 as the Rebels claimed bronze at the Esso Cup in 2023.

The best-of-three West Regional Final is Apr. 4-7 in Winnipeg.
