Raiders struggles continue in loss to Wheat Kings

The Prince Albert Raiders dropped their third straight game on Saturday night, losing 3-2 to the to the Wheat Kings in Brandon at Westoba Place.

The latest setback follows a road defeat in Regina on Friday and a home loss to Swift Current on Tuesday.

On Saturday, the Raiders trailed 3-1 after 40 minutes before Aiden Oiring pulled the Raiders to within one. Then, Polish import Krzysztof Macias was robbed of the tying goal a few moments later on a spectacular glove save from Brandon netminder Carson Bjarnason.

After Saturday’s result, the Raiders finish 3-5 against Brandon this season.

With the win, the Wheat Kings clinched a playoff spot, while the Raiders still have work to do to punch their ticket. Prince Albert currently sits in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference, five points ahead of the Calgary Hitmen. The Raiders have three games remaining, while the Hitmen have four.

Lethbridge also clinched a playoff spot Saturday evening.

And while there is still a little bit of hockey left to be played, it certainly appears that the Raiders could be on a collision course with the arch-rival Saskatoon Blades in the first round of the playoffs.

The Green and Gold return to action on Wednesday night when they wrap up the season series with the Regina Pats at the Art Hauser Centre.
