Teachers pull noon hour supervision Monday and Tuesday

With the failure of the province and STF to resume bargaining talks, teachers will continue job action next week.

On Monday and Tuesday, teachers in the North East School Division, Île-à-la-Crosse School Division, Northern Lights and all schools in the Living Sky and Light of Christ Catholic Division along with Sakewew High School in North Battleford will withdraw noon-hour supervision.

Recently, the province rejected the teacher’s invitation to binding arbitration, days after the Ministry of Education signed a deal with the Sask. School Boards Association to help address the issue of class size and complexity.

The STF pointed out that if the province plans to keep the funding intact for four years, they could include it as a clause in the collective agreement, and that would get teachers back to the bargaining table and pause any job actions.

The province refused.

By not providing noon-hour supervision for students and depending on how each teacher association ops to deal with it, parents will have to pick up their children for lunchtime or in many cases, the school opts to end the day early.

Other divisions participating in next week’s withdrawal of service include Prairie South, South East Cornerstone, Good Spirit and the Sun West School Division.
