The Prince Albert Women’s Hall of Fame gained another member on Sunday afternoon, welcoming Jennifer Brown as their newest inductee for 2024.

Brown was joined by family and friends for the ceremony at the Coronet Hotel, along with a few dignitaries including Mayor Greg Dionne, MLA for Prince Albert Northcote Alana Ross, and former MLA Nicole Rancourt.

Brown was at a loss for words following the ceremony and said she owes the honour to her parents.

“For me, it means that it’s an acknowledgment that my parents raised me right and that’s the best thing I could ask for,” she said.

“It’s kind of overwhelming to be in the same [group] as somebody like Dr. Malhotra,” she continued. “I’m a girl from the West Flat… it’s just overwhelming.”

Some former inductees were also on hand for the event with Dr. Lalita Malhotra, Linda Nosbush, Jeannette Eddolls, and Delphine Melchert making an appearance along with Malcolm Jenkins who was representing his wife, Melba.

Brown had more than a handful of letters of support for the honour from the various different communities she’s involved in, from teaching to volunteering her time in and around Prince Albert among many others.

“To be acknowledged in not just one category but for everything that I’ve done, it’s daunting,” she said. “There’s a lot more that I do that nobody mentioned and I don’t do it for recognition, I do it because it needs to be done. I think the fact that it was all-encompassing was nice because it pays tribute to all aspects of who I am.”

To wrap up the afternoon ceremony, Brown was presented with an art piece selected by the Council of Women as well as a photo of herself which will hang in the Hall of Fame on the second floor of City Hall.

Brown is the 20th member of the Prince Albert Women’s Hall of Fame.
