Hounds outrun Bears in playoffs

The Mann-Northway Northern Bears’ season came to a close Sunday night at the Art Hauser Centre.

The female U18 ‘AAA’ team finished the regular season with a record of 6-18-3-3 (W-L-OTW-OTL) and entered the playoffs as the sixth seed.

They played the Notre Dame Hounds in quarter final action. The Hounds took Game 1 at home on Friday night following a 3-2 double overtime win.

Back at home for Game 2 Sunday, Julia Cey had two goals for the Bears. The second one tied up the game with just a few minutes left in the third period to force overtime once again. After no score within the first 10 minute sudden-death overtime period, both teams took a much needed break while the ice was resurfaced and then faced off for a second OT sudden-death period. Despite their best efforts in a gruelling game, the Bears ended up losing when the Hounds knocked in a rebound about 12 minutes into that 5th period.
