Raiders earn point in tight battle with Edmonton

Gavin Hodnett scored the overtime winner on the powerplay as the Edmonton Oil Kings knocked off the Prince Albert Raiders 3-2 Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre.

A Justice Christensen penalty put the Raiders down a man in the extra frame and Edmonton’s Hodnett was able to find the net on a pretty passing play on the 4-3 man advantage.

The Oil Kings, already eliminated from playoff contention, played the Raiders tough, leading 2-1 for most of the night before Niall Crocker tied the game at 2-2 in the third period to eventually force overtime.

The Raiders did pick up a crucial single point in the standings to go along with some favourable results on the out of town scoreboard as Calgary and Lethbridge both lost in regulation on Friday night. The Raiders remain in a playoff spot, sitting in a tie for seventh with Lethbridge in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.
