Back-to-back wins for Trapper Competition contestants
Richard Charles and Clarissa Burns were the winners of the Lac La Ronge Winter Festival’s King and Queen Trapper Competition.
Both individuals also dominated the event in 2023 and are coming off recent wins at the Prince Albert Winter Festival. Charles placed first in snowshoeing, axe throwing, log sawing, portage and buckskin portions for a total of 45 points, while Burns placed first in the snowshoeing, log toss, rope winding and animal calling portions for a total of 38 points.
As the winners of the competition, both individuals won $1,500 and a trophy.
“It feels good because I am getting up there in age and I am still managing to do pretty good,” Burns, of Prince Albert, said. “I was very happy. Everything went smoothly. I have no complaints. It was such a good turnout and everyone just enjoyed the whole weekend”
