Saskatchewan Royal Purple Celebrates Ten Years and an Additional Partner

Feb 28, 2024 | 9:10 AM

“The partnership between the Saskatchewan Royal Purple and the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association has had Canada -wide implications, “says Sandi Lougheed, the Chair of SRPA’s Charity Partnership Committee. “March is now recognized as BrainLove month, and the third Thursday in October is recognized as Purple Thursday across Canada. We are the founders of these events and we are both volunteer organizations.”

2024 represents the tenth anniversary of this tremendously successful health care partnership.

“Saskatchewan Royal Purple has reached the goal of donating $200,000. to this province’s brain injury awareness and prevention programs. We are on our way to $300,000.”

In 2024, the Saskatchewan Royal Purple announced it will be a founding sponsor of the first care home for brain-injured youth in Saskatchewan. Kerrie Elliott, the owner, and Elaine Perkins, a grandmother of a brain injury survivor and a Saskatchewan Royal Purple member, are among the leading voices to bring this project to fruition.

“We are announcing our first $5000.00 pledge to Feather Ridge, the province’s first care home for brain-injured youth which will be used to purchase a portable lift,” says Lougheed. “There will be more if the government makes the announcement of support we are all hoping for.”

Saskatchewan’s BrainLove month events include the annual kick-off in Prince Albert on March 1st, its annual quilt retreat in Beechy, SK, a national on-line auction to raise funds for Purple Thursday, a provincial poster contest for grades one to eight, a poster blitz and new placemats recognizing past poster contest winners. Bootlegger stores in Saskatchewan will be collecting donations for the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association throughout the month.

“We are celebrating ten years of partnership with SBIA. Our kickoff will be live on Facebook for our members in Saskatchewan and across Canada to join,” says Lougheed. “Come and join us at the Prince Albert Inn at 11: AM on March 1st, share in our cake and celebrate the accomplishments of the volunteers in our province who have made a national difference.”
