New penalties for stunt driving and excessive speeding

Feb 27, 2024 | 4:13 PM

Drivers who like to pretend they’re part of the ‘Fast and the Furious’ franchise will feel the pain beginning May 1.

Under new regulations, any driver caught stunt driving, driving at high speeds or racing will now have their vehicle impounded for 30 days and face a licence suspension for a week.

According to an SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance) news release, once the suspension is over, the vehicle owner will also be responsible for fees associated with storage and towing. The driver will also need to pay to have their licence reprinted.

“The tough new penalties are intended to further discourage drivers from stunting, street racing, and driving at excessively high speeds,” said Dustin Duncan, minister of Crown Investments Corporation, in the release.
