Junior trapper event returns during final weekend of Winter Festival

Feb 23, 2024 | 5:00 PM

There’s nothing fishy about the experience of eating some freshly fried fish and attendees at this year’s Prince Albert Winter Festival will have their chance on Saturday.

That’s just one part of a packed final weekend of activity, said Tammy Gibb, secretary of the Prince Albert Wildlife Federation.

“We’re great. Junior Trapper is coming back. This is the first year in a long time that it’s been back and I’ve got a wonderful partnership going with Shane Bird from PA Indian and Metis Friendship Centre,” she said.

Organizers hope to have about 80 children participate in the Junior Trapper event as it makes its return.

King and Queen Trapper and junior trapper events are at the outdoor site west of Canadian Tire.

While the dog sled races were cancelled because of the lack of snow, the horse sleigh rides are still a go.

Saturday morning sees the return of the Royal Canadian Legion’s pancake breakfast, starting at 9:00 am.

Arm wrestling will be at the main hall of the exhibition at 1:00 pm with the tradeshow going throughout the afternoon at the Armoury, with about 125 vendors.

On Saturday, the day ends with the Rock Show Experience Cabaret at the Exhibition Grounds and on Sunday, a gospel show at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre.

More details can be found on the Prince Albert Winter Festival website.
