A former Prince Albert Raider defenceman is being recognized for his play with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

Canada West, which is a regional membership association for universities across Western Canada, announced on Thursday its All-Star and All-Rookie Teams for the 2023/24 season.

Landon Kosior was named to the men’s All-Rookie Team after getting 12 points, four goals and eight assists, in 14 games.

He told paNOW he was a bit surprised since he played for less than half of the season.

“I’m very honoured but I couldn’t do it without my teammates, we had a great team this year, so I have to give them credit as well.”

Kosior spent the first half of the season with the Iowa Heartlanders of the ECHL. In 19 games, he scored two goals and added 11 assists for 13 points.

Despite joining the Huskies midway through the season, Kosior said the team helped him feel at home very quickly.

“Felt like I had been there all year,” he said.

Kosior also noted since returning to Saskatchewan he hasn’t run into any Raiders fans. However, a few of his teammates from last season travelled to Saskatoon to watch him in the Huskies’ quarter-final series against the Alberta Golden Bears.

“I definitely still feel like a Raider; they’re always coming down to support,” he said.

Kosior added he has every intention of playing with the Huskies again next season.

Meanwhile, three other Huskies were named to Canada West’s All-Star Teams.

Camryn Drever was chosen for the women’s First Team All-Stars, while Sophie Lalor was part of the women’s Second Team All-Stars. Chantz Petruic was among the men’s Second Team All-Stars.
