Feb 12, 2024 | 2:00 PM

The South Saskatchewan Wrestling Championships were held this past weekend in Moose Jaw and the team representing Prince Albert’s St. Mary High School left a big impression on the mat.

The team finished second overall behind Regina’s O’Neill High School and a number of athletes brought home medals.

Among the highlights for the team were Owen Ferchuk, who dominated in the heavyweight Elite division with a Gold medal.

In the novice category, both Emily Groves and Parker Gobeil won gold in their respective weight classes.

While Regina’s O’Neill High School was declared the overall winner, it was only by two points and O’Neill had 15 more wrestlers.

Up next for St. Mary is Regionals in March. The top four schools advance to Provincials.
