P.A. council set to discuss aquatics and arenas project, SaskTel towers, new firefighters contract

Feb 12, 2024 | 12:00 PM

The aquatics and arenas project and new SaskTel towers are just some of the things Prince Albert’s council is set to discuss at their latest meeting.

Council is scheduled to meet on Monday with arguably the biggest talking point being a $18 million loan to help offset the lack of fundraising for one of the biggest projects happening in The Yard District.

The city originally projected to collect $20 million in fundraising for the new aquatics and arenas recreation centre by 2024, however, this didn’t happen.

If approved, this would put the total of borrowed money for the project at $48 million.

P.A.’s council is also set to discuss sites for new SaskTel towers. The telecommunications company has proposed three new locations: Miller Hill Park near the drainage channel, SaskTel Customer Service Centre at 1200 Sixth Avenue East, and Kinsmen Park.

Even if these sites are approved, it would still be over a year until coverage in these areas is fixed.

Also up for discussion is whether or not to accept a new contract with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local #510 and if Wisdom Learning Centre Inc. can increase its capacity from 20 children to 38.

Council’s meeting gets underway at 5 p.m.
