The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced the signing of a former NFLer on Friday.

The CFL team said it had inked defensive back Nick Nelson to a contract.

A 27-year-old product of Florence, S.C., Nelson was selected by the then-Oakland Raiders in the fourth round (110th overall) of the 2018 NFL draft out of the University of Wisconsin.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder spent two seasons (2018-19) with the Raiders, appearing in 12 games and starting three. He recorded 20 tackles, one pass deflection and one fumble recovery in his career with Oakland.

He also had a stint with the Indianapolis Colts in 2021.

Nelson began his college career at the University of Hawaii, where he played in 21 games over the 2014 and ’15 seasons.

He transferred to Wisconsin in 2016. After sitting out that season under NCAA transfer rules, Nelson set a single-season school record and led the nation with 21 pass breakups in 2017, when he also had 35 tackles and one tackle for loss. He also returned 24 punts for 206 yards and one touchdown.
