Woman stabbed, burned, and tortured at Prince Albert apartment building: bail hearing for accused

A woman who was burned, stabbed, and tortured at a Prince Albert apartment building, was dropped off on the highway outside Prince Albert and ordered to walk to Shellbrook.

Those were the details shared on Wednesday at Prince Albert Provincial Court, when one of eight people charged in the case, was seeking bail.

The assault, which was spread out over various suites, occurred in early January. According to facts in court read by the Crown prosecutor, the woman was assaulted by rival gang members.

After robbing her of cash and her cellphone, the victim was then burned in the cheek and ear with a hot knife.

Upon calling out for help to Joshua Goodvoice, a man who was described as a high ranking member of the gang, and someone the victim thought she could trust, the woman was then placed into a bathtub and given the option to have either her finger cut off or her tongue. She opted for the finger.

While this was unfolding, a fire occurred at the apartment building and all the residents were ushered out by fire crews. Escorted by two of her attackers, the woman was taken across the street to the nearby A&W restaurant and told to keep quiet or get killed.

Later upon returning to a third level suite at the building, the victim’s hands and face were taped up and she was stabbed repeatedly in the legs with pocket knives. All the while her attackers demanded to know “who she was down with.”

The woman was also given an ultimatum to either cut off a section of her own tongue or have one of her attackers do it and so after taking the knife, did the deed herself, tossing the flesh afterward in the garbage.

Later she was driven out to a location near the Highway 2 north overpass and told to walk to Shellbrook.

She was soon after spotted by a mobile crisis worker and the Crown noted had this not occurred, it’s very likely the victim could have died.

All the accused have been charged with aggravated assault, forcible confinement, assault causing bodily harm, robbery, and uttering threats.

Jordana Napope was denied bail on Wednesday and Amanda Venne had been previously been denied bail on Jan. 31.

Ryan Morrison, Abby Abraham and Roberta Smith all have court between Feb. 20 and Feb. 22, and 24-year-old Joshua Goodvoice, who was located in Edmonton, is being transported back to Prince Albert.

Also charged were 36-year-old Chelsea Kakakaway and 18-year-old Shyanna Michel, but at this time police are still looking for them.
