Raiders welcome Hurricanes for second meeting of season

Feb 7, 2024 | 11:00 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders (22-24-1-3) are looking to score back-to-back wins against southern Alberta opponents in their last two games on Wednesday night, as they are set to host the Lethbridge Hurricanes (24-21-3-0) for the first time this campaign.

The Raiders head into tonight on a high note following a narrow 3-2 triumph at home against Medicine Hat back on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes come in on a loss after falling in Saskatoon 3-1 on Tuesday.

For P.A., they have been on a steady incline with three wins in their last five games which also features victories against Red Deer and Saskatoon. That being said, those wins are the only wins for the Raiders in their last 10 games who hold a 3-6-1-0 record entering Wednesday.

Lethbridge, on the other hand, boasts an even 5-5-0-0 record in their last 10, including two wins against Regina and one each versus Medicine Hat, Edmonton, and Calgary. In their last five, the Canes are 3-2-0-0.

So far this season, the Raiders and Hurricanes have met just once back on Nov. 8 in Lethbridge, resulting in a 4-2 win for P.A. that kicked off the Raiders’ U.S. road swing. The two clubs will meet twice more before the end of the year with the next matchup scheduled for Feb. 17 in Lethbridge. The season series finale is slated for March 2 in Prince Albert.

Following tonight, the Raiders will be back in action on Friday when they head to Saskatoon to meet the Blades at the SaskTel Centre.

Who to Watch

Forward Brayden Dube led the way for P.A. during their win on Saturday over the Tigers, netting two goals for the first multi-goal outing of his career. The pair of markers came within 90 seconds of each other in the first period, which set up the Raiders to score the eventual game-winner in the second. The goals also helped the Roblin, Man. product surpass the 20-point mark on the year.

Winger Niall Crocker also finished Saturday’s contest with two points, netting the game-winning goal as well as an assist. The multi-point effort was his third in the last five games, as he’s up to seven points (3g, 4a) in his last five appearances. The Delta, B.C. born 19-year-old is averaging nearly a point per game this season with 16 goals and 27 assists through 50 games, enough for second in team scoring.
