Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, but not every relationship has a storybook ending.

The Humboldt & District SPCA is putting out a call for all scorned and jilted lovers as part of a lighthearted fundraiser that will help keep animal populations under control while also providing some catharsis to those who have left bad relationships.

For each $50 donation, the SPCA said it will name a cat after the donor’s ex, then neuter or spay them.

“Because some things just shouldn’t breed,” the SPCA said in a social media post, adding a winking face for good measure.

“This is just a fun, lighthearted way to sponsor a neuter or spay for our loving cats.”

The organization said it had seen the idea used by a few other rescue organizations, and wanted to join in on the fun as well.
