The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Monday the signing of defensive back Nelson Lokombo to a one-year contract extension.

The former University of Saskatchewan Huskies star could have become a CFL free agent on Feb. 13.

Lokombo, 24, is the 11th Roughriders player whose signing has been announced by the team this off-season. Saskatchewan has yet to announce anything on 18 other potential free agents and has released one other.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Lokombo was selected by the Roughriders in the first round (second overall) of the 2021 CFL draft. He has played in 23 career regular-season games with five starts, and has recorded 18 defensive tackles, four special-teams stops and one forced fumble in his career.
