Contraband, unauthorized items seized in Sask. Penitentiary’s maximum-security unit

Jan 25, 2024 | 10:24 AM

Once again, a massive amount of drugs and unauthorized items were seized at Saskatchewan Penitentiary.

The seizure took place on Friday and saw officers confiscate methamphetamine, THC, and SIM cards, which have a total estimated institutional value of $170,566. The seizure stemmed from the vigilance of staff members at the facility.

As a result, the Correctional Services of Canada (CSC) has contacted Prince Albert Police who are continuing the investigation. Measures have also been heightened to prevent contraband and other unauthorized items from entering the Sask. Pen. and its other institutions.

The CSC uses different tools to prevent drugs and other contraband from entering its institutions, including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.

A telephone tip line has also been set up for all federal institutions so additional information can be received regarding drug use or trafficking that threatens the safety and security of visitors, inmates, and staff members.

The toll-free number ensures that the information shared is protected and the caller remains anonymous.
