Prince Albert teams now 2 and 0 during Hockey Week in Kinistino

Hockey Week in Kinistino rolled along on Wednesday night, as the community continued to host hockey games ahead of their official Hockey Day in Saskatchewan celebration.

The contest, which was the second of 12 games this week, pitted the Carrot River Outback Thunder against the Prince Albert Timberjaks, in Prairie Junior Hockey League (PJHL) action.

“The guys played hard and did the things we wanted, they kept the puck out of our end, our goalie played well and we scored some goals, which attributes to not a bad game,” explained Timberjaks head coach, Stephen Corfmat.

“It was a good atmosphere, there were some fans and it’s always good to be a part of these types of things.”

The game was a tight one, as the two were separated by just one spot in the standings.

Prince Albert had a 2-0 lead after the first before Carrot River tied it at twos midway through the game.

Unfortunately for the Thunder, they gave up two straight after that and couldn’t bury one with the net empty, as they fell 4-2.

“Basically, we’re fighting for the last playoff spot, so for us in our first year back in the league, that’s a goal we set from the start and it’s something we want to accomplish,” Corfmat added.

The Town of Kinistino had a favourite who they were supporting as the town’s lone native belonged to the Outback Thunder.

Aidan Hanson, son of Randy Hanson, dawns the number 15 and was battling the entire game in front of a large number of supporters.

“It was great coming back here to play, great to see the rink full, and would’ve been even better if we got the two points,” Hanson told northeastNOW.

“To be honest I didn’t know if I was ever gonna play here again, I was hoping I would get another chance, but I wasn’t too sure, so when I found out we got a minor hockey day here, I was really happy.”

The hockey week will continue on Thursday night when the U18 Kinistino Tigers host the Carrot River Loggers.
