Former Roughrider highlights Day Two of Viterra Scotties

A former Saskatchewan Roughrider was one of the main focuses of attention on Thursday for Day two of the Viterra Scotties.

Tisdale hosted Grey Cup Champion, Chris Getzlaff for a luncheon, as he spoke to fans, sponsors, volunteers, and the curling teams about his career and things he learned along the way.

“I was lucky enough to come down and have a chat, share some of my stories and experiences and how that relates to sport in general. The crowd was great, the meal was great and I really enjoyed my time here today,” the long-time Rider told northeastNOW.

“I had a blast, anytime that you get out to a smaller town in Saskatchewan, you know you’re gonna get a fantastic meal, you know you’re gonna see great people and have a great community event, and this one definitely had all that.”

The luncheon came in the middle of the day for the curlers, as eight of the 12 teams played in the morning, with two more draws set for the later afternoon and evening.

For Getzlaff, he was able to split the day up with words of motivation and pieces of advice for the province’s best women curlers, as they all look to become the very best in Saskatchewan.

“The biggest thing is coming together at the right time, you’ve developed chemistry throughout each and every year that you’re working together, and whoever comes together in the end and is the tightest group generally comes out on top,” he added.

“Obviously, when it comes to curling, it could be one throw here or there, that makes a big difference and sometimes, you gotta have a little luck that goes with that. At the same time, I think that if you’ve spent years and the entire season working together, growing that chemistry and coming together at the right time, success usually follows.”

With Thursday draws now in the books, each team is beginning to see where they stand among the pack and working as hard as they can to push for a weekend playoff spot.

As it stands heading into Friday morning, Team Martin and Ackerman are the only ones at 3-0, Team Barker and Mitchell sit at 2-1, Team Holland, Stevenson, and Selzer are 1-1, Team Anderson, Englot, and Silvernagle are 1-2, Team Tisdale and Orsted are 0-2 and 0-3, respectively.

Day 3 will begin at 10 a.m., go until roughly 10 p.m., and feature three draws in total.
