Prince Albert bowlers qualify for Nationals

After striking some big numbers at provincials, three Prince Albert bowlers are rolling on to nationals.

Braden Akers, Charlie Spitzack and Hailee Anderson-Nilson have all been named to the All-Star Team that will represent Saskatchewan at the end of May. The provincial round of competition for the youth challenge was held last Sunday at Saskatoon’s Eastview Bowl.

There were three teams from Prince Albert competing (men’s, ladies and mixed) and after five hard fought games, they all finished with a medal. The ladies team won bronze, and both the men ‘s and mixed teams won silver.

Top three Mens Standings: (seven teams competed)

1st – Moose Jaw – 5158

2nd – Prince Albert – 5108

3rd – Regina – 4988

Top three Ladies Standings: (five teams competed)

1st – Regina – 5353

2nd – Saskatoon – 4934

3rd – Prince Albert – 4717

Top three Mixed standings: (five teams competed)

1st – Regina – 4926

2nd – Prince Albert – 4802

3rd – East Sask – 4616

Once all five games were bowled and scores calculated, the top three men and ladies were named to the all-star team that competes at nationals.

The all-star team consists of: (five-game average shown)

1st – Trevor Coxe (Moose Jaw mens ) – 235.20

2nd – Braden Akers (P.A mens) – 227.4

3rd – Charlie Spitzack (P.A mixed) – 226.4

1st – Marissa Gyori (Regina Ladies) – 251.2

2nd – Taelar Kerr (Regina Ladies) – 224.2

3rd – Hailee Anderson-Nilson (P.A Ladies) – 220.8

This year’s nationals will be held virtually and it’s not clear just yet where Saskatchewan will be bowling from.

The local qualifying event for provincials was hosted by the Prince Albert five pin association on Nov. 12. A total of 15 bowlers competed including six ladies and nine men.
