‘Amazing response from the community’: Annual winter clothing campaign delivers again

Jan 16, 2024 | 2:00 PM

Winter clothing is on the way for those who need it most as a cold snap continues to sweep through the Prince Albert region.

The Wrapped up for the Holidays campaign concluded on Tuesday. The annual initiative, put on by Parkland Ambulance, aims to deliver winter clothing to people across the city.

“People are always amazingly donating stuff to us and it’s all going to disappear and be used quite quickly,” said Lyle Karasiuk with Parkland Ambulance. “As we know it’s been brutally cold, but certainly the winter time is the time when most of the folks who benefit from this stuff need it the most.”

“It’s just an amazing response from the community.”

Karasiuk added they noticed some new trends in the types of items that were donated this time around.

“I think what we saw this year for a different change is we saw lots of toques, scarves, and socks,” Karasiuk said. “And those things I think are more readily used and needed quite quickly.”

Tuesday was delivery day for the donations as the clothing was loaded on to a truck. It will then be sorted and delivered to people in shelters and other locations across the city over the coming days.

“It’s going to do a lot to keep them warm, to keep them safe, and to give them a hand up. And that’s really important,” Karasiuk said.
