Mintos snap losing skid with win over Stars

Jan 14, 2024 | 11:09 AM

The Prince Albert Mintos got back into the win column on Saturday night, snapping a six-game losing streak by doubling up the Battlefords Stars 4-2 at the Pineridge Ford Place Arena on Flying Dust First Nation near Meadow Lake.

The win is the first of the New Year for the Mintos as their now snapped losing streak started back on Dec. 3 when the Notre Dame Hounds squeaked out a 4-3 win in overtime.

Kale Margolis led the way for P.A., netting a goal and an assist while Taite Donkin, Lincoln Rogers, and Abinet Klassen also found the back of the net. Additionally, Teigan Semchyshen, Van Taylor, Carter Cole, and Owen Nelson each made it onto the scoresheet with one assist each.

Lukamus Lehman and Lee Burden were the two goal-scorers for the Stars with Devante Pratt assisting on either marker while Hayden Meszaros had the only other assist.

Josh Henry was given the nod for Prince Albert and made 25 stops to help the Mintos improve to 16-9-4 on the campaign.

Brady Carr was between the pipes for the Battlefords and turned aside 36 shots as the Stars fell to 13-19-1 this season.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Lehman opened the scoring early in the first while on the powerplay to give the Stars the one-goal lead.

The Mintos replied later in the period by lighting the lamp not once, but twice. Donkin got P.A. on the board at the halfway mark of the frame before Rogers scored again to make it a 2-1 Mintos lead entering the second.

The lead continued to grow while in the middle twenty, coming on the powerplay when Margolis potted his 16th of the season to double the Battlefords deficit heading to the third.

The Stars weren’t going to go down without a fight though as Burden made it a one-goal game with a little under nine minutes to play.

Thankfully, that’s as close as the Battlefords would come as Klassen potted the empty netter to seal the deal for the Mintos.

Prince Albert returns to the Art Hauser Centre on Wednesday night when they host the Saskatoon Contacts for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.
