St. Mary High School Students set to perform ‘Puffs’ at EA Rawlinson Centre

Jan 11, 2024 | 12:00 PM

Students at Prince Albert’s St. Mary High School are set to take the stage at the EA Rawlinson Centre.

Led by teacher Jason Van Otterloo, they’re planning to retell a famous story set at a magic school that previously took the world by storm through its popular book series and movie franchise.

It’s called ‘Puffs’ since they legally can’t use the name it’s known for.

“It’s a retelling of seven years where we get to have three students… lead the audience into adventures, growing up, finding out different things that come with growing up, especially growing up in the magical world,” said Sam Malenfant, one of the many students acting in the play.

While the students got to make the play their own, it’s actually based on the popular off-Broadway show ‘Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.’

For Kam Dumais, she’s just happy they’re able to be part of this world in one way or another.

“What Mr. Van [Otterloo] has done with the lights and the whole set, preps, and everything, and even the actors and what we’re doing… it’s just transformed this whole thing into something purely magical,” she said.

The first show will happen Thursday at 7:30 p.m. There will be two more shows afterward, happening Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Anyone interested in diving back into this magical world can purchase their ticket on the EA Rawlinson Centre’s website.
