Snowfall warnings issued for much of central Saskatchewan

Winter has finally arrived in Saskatchewan.

Just before 3:30 p.m. Monday, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued snowfall warnings for a wide swath of central Saskatchewan.

The warnings covered areas including Saskatoon, Prince Albert, North Battleford, Humboldt, Kindersley and Melfort.

According to Environment Canada, an Alberta Clipper was expected to dump between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow on some areas until Wednesday afternoon.

“Gusty winds accompanying the snowfall will cause reduced visibility at times due to blowing snow,” the warning said. “The snowfall is expected to taper off on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.”

As of 4 p.m., the Highway Hotline showed winter conditions existed on many roads across the province. However, there weren’t any closures being reported.

The Alberta Clipper also was expected to drag Arctic air in the province, with temperatures expected to plummet as the week progressed.
