More than 40 teams from cities across Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba came to Prince Albert last weekend for the 23rd instalment of the Foxes Hockey Tournament.

The tournament took over arenas across Prince Albert including the Kinsmen and Dave Steuart arena. The local Fox teams came out on top in the U18AA B Side and U11B A side.

Roughly 45 teams participated from U9 to U18 levels.

The U11 team beat the Warman Bangels 6-2 in the final while the U18AA Foxes beat the Lloydminster Steelers 1-0.

Jim Flynn has been organizing this tournament since the beginning and said teams are always excited to come here.

“We had teams from our province and a lot of good comments from them and some of them even won their different divisions,” he said. “Even the older ones that come every year said that they always come because of the way the tournament runs and they know that they get lots of games.”

Now that this year’s event has wrapped up, Flynn said they will soon get going on the 2024 edition.

“We’ll take a little bit of a break and get everything finalized and see how successful we were at the end of the tournament. Then we’ll be starting in February, March, we start our new planning for the for the next year.”

The 2024 Foxes Tournament is scheduled from Jan. 3-5.
