The Prince Albert Raiders snapped their four-game losing streak on Saturday night when they narrowly defeated the Saskatoon Blades 2-1 in a shootout at the Art Hauser Centre.

The win comes 24 hours after falling to the Warriors 6-4 in Moose Jaw.

In the seventh-round of the shootout, Raiders forward Oli Chenier potted the eventual winner for P.A. before Max Hildebrand managed to block out Tyler Parr to secure the two points over their bitter rivals.

Scoring the lone Raider goal, and point, in regulation was 20-year-old affiliate Turner McMillen, who’s on a three-game tryout with the team.

Meanwhile for Saskatoon, Parr netted their lone regulation marker while Charlie Wright and newly acquired Alexander Suzdalev got the assists on the play.

Hildebrand made 32 saves in goal to help the Raiders get back to .500 at 18-18-0-2 on the campaign.

Evan Gardner roamed the paint for the Blades and made 23 saves to help keep their point streak going at 15 games. With the loss however, Saskatoon falls to 26-8-2-2 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The Raiders found themselves up by one following the first period by scoring the only goal. McMillen picked up the puck in the neutral zone off of a Saskatoon turnover and walked into the Blades zone where he fired home his first in a Raider uniform.

The second was much of the same story, however, the Blades were the lone scorers in the frame. Wright went for the wraparound on Hildebrand who was stuffed at the line, but the puck bounced off his pads and onto the tape of Parr who pulled the game to even entering the third period.

Neither team managed to score in the final frame nor did anyone in overtime, so the game went to a shootout.

Both club remained scoreless until round seven when Chenier was able to put the Raiders in front going low glove on Gardner. With the game on his stick, Parr went back hand then forehand to try and fool Hildebrand and succeeded, however, the puck hit the out side of the net rather than the back to give the Raiders a 2-1 win in extras.

The Raiders short three game homestand continues on Tuesday night when they host the Vancouver Giants for the first time since Oct. 8, 2019. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
