Prince Albert Winter Festival organizers hoping for snow ahead of annual event

The lack of snow is causing some concerns for those organizing the Prince Albert Winter Festival (PAWF).

The annual event, which is set to celebrate its 60th year, is just over a month away but some events may not happen if the weather doesn’t change.

This includes the dog sled races and snow sculptures.

“Hopefully (Mother Nature) will bring her best game in the next month or so,” joked Bev Erickson, president of the PAWF.

She added there’s a chance the Lake Country Co-op Family Day Sliding Party at Little Red River Park may also be cancelled. This is because the hill is currently way too icy.

“I don’t want the citizens of Prince Albert to be upset with me, but a good two feet of snow would be wonderful,” said Erickson.

In her opinion, the perfect scenario would include the temperature hovering between -10C and -15C and no windchill. She joked it may be hard to get in touch with Mother Nature to get all her requests in.

The good news is that all the other events will happen whether or not the weather cooperates.

The PAWF is slated to happen from Feb. 9 to Feb. 25.
