‘He wants to be the guy in big moments’: Raiders sign new goalie

Dec 28, 2023 | 1:18 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders have found themselves another goaltender.

The club announced on Thursday that they’ve signed 18-year-old Nathan Preston to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

He comes from the Princeton Posse out of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL). In 15 games, he’s put up a 12-3-0 record with a 2.47 GAA and .920 SV%.

Mark Readman, the Posse’s head coach and general manager, told paNOW he fully deserves this shot in the Western Hockey League (WHL).

“He’s a hard-working block and stop goalie, he’s going to compete,” he said.

Readman also highlighted Preston’s work ethic and ability to make a save when his team needs one.

“No moment really gets too big for him, and he wants to be the guy in big moments and big games.”

This news comes a day after the Raiders signed goalie Steele Bass to a Scholarship and Development Agreement. He was chosen in the third round, 49th overall, in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

To make room on the roster, the Raiders have re-assigned 20-year-old Chase Coward to a team that’s still being determined. In 16 games this season, he posted a 6-8-0-1 record with a 3.52 GAA and .882 SV%.
