‘Prince Albert has a generous heart’: Salvation Army raises $100K during Kettle Campaign

Dec 27, 2023 | 5:00 PM

It was only fitting that the Prince Albert Salvation Army had its best Christmas Kettle Campaign during arguably its toughest year.

The non-profit was able to raise $100,000 during its annual fundraiser, hitting the six-figure mark for the first time.

Major Ed Dean told paNOW that it said a lot about the community that they were able to do this despite many people suffering financially.

“Prince Albert has a generous heart,” he said.

The money will be much needed if 2024 is similar to 2023. The Salvation Army handed out over 53,000 meals, by far a new record.

“It’s heartbreaking,” added Dean.

The funds will be used to help the non-profit continue offering its outreach services. This includes providing meals, clothing, its children’s camp, and more.

Dean explained the money will also allow them to focus more of its fundraising efforts on their new dining room and kitchen project. The non-profit is using its old Thrift Store for the project with hopes this will help them better serve the people who rely on them for a warm meal.

“It’ll be really nice to sit down with somebody and have a conversation instead of passing them a meal through a window,” said Dean.

The exact purpose of the project is not fully known, though the Salvation Army believes the kitchen appliances alone will cost around $120,000.

“We will need to do some fundraising as (the project) isn’t cheap,” added Dean.

Despite this, they’re aiming to have it up and running by this time next year.
