Teen charged with armed robbery during busy PAPS weekend

Dec 18, 2023 | 12:48 PM

A 16-year-old teen has made his first court appearance on charges of armed robbery from two incidents this past weekend.

The teen, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested after police responded to a robbery reported in the 200 Block of 20th Street East just after 1 a.m. on December 16.

Two people were inside a vehicle when they were approached by two males who knocked on the window and brandished a gun.

The victims drove away and called police with a detailed description of the suspects.

At the same time, a different person flagged down officers saying he was the victim of an attempted robbery by the same two males.

In the second case, the perpetrators also had a gun and used a laser pointer to disorient the victim.

The police canine unit was called and starting tracking the suspects, taking them to the 400 Block of 19th Street East.

Officers apprehended the teen boy and seized a modified gun equipped with a laser pointer.

The second suspect was not caught and is still being sought by police.

He was wearing all black with a black bandana, is about 5-7 tall and has a slim build.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 306-953-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously online.

The arrested teen appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court this morning on charges of robbery with a firearm and other gun-related offences.

The armed robbery was just one part of a busy weekend for PAPS, who responded to 302 calls for service over the weekend and arrested 24 people.

Police also ran a checkstop with MADD Canada, SGI and the highway patrol on the 100 block of River Street West.

One of the vehicles that was stopped for mandatory alcohol screening of the driver showed up as stolen when the plates were checked.

The two men inside were both arrested and a following search turned up a sawed-off shotgun, open alcohol and body armour on the man in the passenger seat.

The 23-year-old man who was driving now faces multiple gun charges and a breach of release conditions charge.

The 25-year-old passenger also has similar gun-related charges. Both appeared in provincial court this morning.
