P.A. Timberjaks donate $2.5K to local Ronald McDonald House project

The Prince Albert Timberjaks are the latest group to donate to the Ronald McDonald House being built in the city.

The hockey team presented a $2,500 cheque to Tammy Forrester, the CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities in Saskatchewan, on Thursday at P.A.’s Rally Mazda.

The money actually came from Mazda Canada which asked its dealership to find somebody in the community to decide what non-profit should get some extra funding. The Timberjaks were chosen by the dealership with the team choosing the Ronald McDonald House.

Team President Ken Malenfant told paNOW his first thought was the Ronald McDonald House and after speaking with the team they all agreed.

“My wife and I had a child that was premature… we were fortunate that we didn’t use the House services, but they were offered to us.”

He explained this situation helped him understand how important these spaces are. It’s also why the non-profit is very close to his heart.

Meanwhile, Forrester said she was overjoyed that they were chosen. In her opinion, donations like this will help get the project finished.

“Seeing these young guys in partnership with a business here just speaks to the future of philanthropy and support to communities.”

Right now, around 20 per cent of the funding needed for P.A.’s Ronald McDonald House has been collected. Forrester noted there’s a chance they could start construction around this time next year.
