The award winners have been announced for next year’s annual Sportsman Dinner in Prince Albert.

The event is set for Jan. 20, 2024, at the Ches Leach Lounge inside the Art Hauser Centre. It will be the 14th year for the dinner and all of the proceeds will be going towards Prince Albert Minor Baseball’s “Grand Slam” rebuild project.

The Sportsman of the Year recipient is Bruce Vance. Vance has been a staple in the sporting community in Prince Albert for several years and has made outstanding contributions on the hockey scene. He was involved in the “Bring Back The Magic” initiative that brought upgrades to the Art Hauser Centre and he also helped manage Triple-A hockey teams and was honoured by the Prince Albert Raiders earlier this year.

Vance continues to be an active volunteer in the community despite battling Stage 4 cancer.

The Male Athlete of the Year is Tazmin Smith-Windsor. Smith-Windsor is a graduate of the Carlton High School football program and is currently a defensive back at the University of Saskatchewan. He won the Football Saskatchewan Senior Bowl Defensive MVP award in May of this past year and also represented Saskatchewan at the U18 Football Canada Cup, helping the team win the championship and being named Defensive MVP in the Gold Medal Game.

The 2024 Female Athlete of the Year is Gage Grassick. Grassick is a graduate of the Carlton High School basketball program. She also currently plays at the University of Saskatchewan and has received numerous accolades, including being named a U Sports Academic All-Canadian in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. She was also a Canada West champion in 2021-2022.

She’s currently averaging about 14 points per game with the Huskies this season.

Former NHLer Chris Chelios will be the guest speaker at the dinner.
