Man pleads guilty in P.A. knife incident

Dec 7, 2023 | 4:00 PM

A Little Red River First Nation man who was to be tried on Thursday for breaking and entering while holding a knife has instead pleaded guilty.

Wallace Hunt’s trial was set to be heard before Judge Daunt in Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Hunt instead pleaded guilty to breaking and entering and several charges of failing to appear for court. Other charges will be withdrawn once he is sentenced next Friday.

He appeared from the prisoner’s box and will remain in custody until he is sentenced.

Charges were laid after Prince Albert Police responded to a call of a man trying to break into a home in the 500 Block of 22nd Street East on February 15, 2023.

While police were on their way to the scene, they learned that an off-duty officer had been confronted by a man with a knife outside a nearby business.

That man matched the description from the first call.

The officer was able to pull a man and a young child inside the business before the suspect fled.

Police caught him after a short foot chase.
